HP (and) Dell Product Availability Affected By Intel Chipset-Design Flaw
Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. said that the availability of certain machines will be ?impacted? by a chip- design flaw disclosed by Intel Corp. and that it will delay a product presentation scheduled for next week in San Francisco.
?We are postponing the business notebooks briefing on Feb. 10 as the availability of HP products will be impacted? by the flaw outlined by Intel, according to a statement sent to reporters yesterday by Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.
HP Product Availability ?Impacted? By Intel?s Flaw
Intel, the world?s largest maker of semiconductors, said on Jan. 31 that it will incur $1 billion in missed sales and higher cost to fix the design flaw. The error also is affecting personal-computer makers including Samsung Electronics Co., which said it will offer refunds on some PCs, and NEC Corp., which said it may push back the release of four new models.
The fault is in a support chip, or chipset, for Intel?s latest processor model called Sandy Bridge, unveiled this month in a bid to improve PC graphics and repel a challenge by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
HP, the world?s largest maker of PCs, sells many computers that use chips other than Sandy Bridge, said Marlene Somsak, a spokeswoman for Palo Alto, California based HP.
?HP has the broadest lineup of PCs in the industry and there are many HP choices using a wide variety of processors,? Somsak said yesterday.
HP climbed 83 cents to $46.52 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading yesterday. It declined 18 percent last year.
XPS, Alienware
Dell Inc. spokesman David Frink said in an e-mailed statement that the Intel flaw affects four Dell products sold under its XPS, Vostro, and Alienware brands.
?We?re committed to addressing this with customers who have already purchased one of the four products, will work directly with them and provide further detail as it becomes available,? Frink said.
Computers that use the potentially faulty chips have been sold since Jan. 9, and Intel said it?s corrected the flaw and begun manufacturing a new version of the chip that will resolve the issue.
Intel said it expects to begin delivering an updated version of Sandy Bridge?s chipset, called Cougar Point, to customers in late February and be at full production in April. The company has shipped about 8 million of the Cougar Point chips to customers that will have to be replaced, Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith said on a Jan. 31 conference call.
HP had planned to discuss the notebook computers, aimed at business customers, with journalists next week, before officially unveiling them to the public on Feb. 23, according to an earlier e-mail from Edelman.

The first thing you need to confirm is that the logo is indeed in vector form when you open it in Illustrator and not just a bounding box indicating pixel-based art.
Toggle the keyboard shortcut Command + Y or go to the pulldown menu View > Outline (or alternatively Preview) to view your art in both modes.
If you have actual vector art, then check the following...
• Pulldown menu Window > Layers - are there any locked layers?
• Pulldown menu Object - is Unlock All in black? That would indicate an object has been locked.
Those would be two things to check.

Hey,
I Used To Play This Game For Hours On PC And On Playstation, I Think Its Great That They have Realeased It Onto A More Up-To-Date Console And Its Great With The Touch-Go Use, It Takes Full Advantage of The DS And Still Keeps The Game Going As The PC,Playsation Version.
I Was Expecting The DS Version To Be Much More Difficult To Use, Seeing Theres Less Buttons And Small Screen But It Works Really Well For It!
If You Dont Have It then I Recomend You Go Out And Buy It :)
For Those That Love This Game Lots Like I Do I have Created A Special Forum For Fans :)

Someone was asking about scanner reviews - not too much that's current out there. Many reviews date from the late 90's!! I guess the push to digital cameras killed most of the market.
http://www.bythom.com/coolscanv.htm
I should note that the 4000ED is my third generation dedicated 35mm scanner. I bought a first generation Nikon personal scanner back in 1993. Hard to get a good scan, as it's dynamic range was pretty bad. My second generation was a Polaroid Sprintscan from 1998. Much better, but single feed and still spotty with complicated slides. I bought the Nikon 4000 in 2003 and have been VERY happy with its performance.

I just received my quote from the "Business Manager" at the local Apple store. I have to purchase through my wife's company so the quote is just for the 12" iBook without any upgrades.
However, I would like to upgrade to the 60gb drive. When I bring them the company check do you think I can just add the upgrade then and pay the difference myself. I think it's only $50 for the upgrade.
Also, if I am able to upgrade, do I have to wait long for the upgrade?
Thanks for your help. I am getting ready to purchase my first iBook and I'm not very familiar with dealing with Apple.

My Apple wireless keyboard lasts 2-3 months on regular AA batteries.
If your wireless keyboard was backlit you'd have to replace the batteries every second day or so...
:( Mine doesn't last that long, but I guess I do use it alot!! And I never turn it off, or my computer!

This joke is funny and not over used at all. My favorite part is when you take a shot at the dev team and make your release date a long time away.
Apparently you're one of those guys who believes that the dev team owes you a jailbreak. Honestly if I had one I'd troll all the people like you, who tell the dev team they suck and go ahead and use their jailbreak anyway.
really? i thought he was making fun of those people.

I was thinking of going to Eaton Centre, but reading after reading some tweets about the massive lineups, I decided to go to Yorkdale instead. I got there at 1:30 and there were about 300 people before me. At 6:30, I walked out with the iPad of my choice. Sweet!

Games are a bit different but if you run the desktop or other apps at 1920x1080, it won't look great. Even in games, I'm sure you can notice a difference if you are honest.
Yes you can. Don't argue with me, I have been switching back and forth on Crysis 2 and there is definitely a noticeable difference.
However Games still look good with 1920x1080 on the 27" iMac.
How about 1080p movies in full screen mode? Does it look bad? Do you guys prefer watching it through a window at 1080p?

No. I think the 1Ghz is the better deal.
I really like the value of the 867- finally a non-crippled Pro machine at $1699 or $2699 in Canada is great. I'd wait until the next upgrade to even consider the top of the line.

So it looks like the Handbrake problem is all sorted out as I have encoded about a dozen more movies all using the queue and it's running perfectly.:D
However a new problem has shown up with Rip It. About 1 out of every 10 dvd's will make the superdrive roar and make a loud vibrating sound although I put my hand on the Mini and there is no vibration. Also it bogs down the system with a lot of beachballing, Activity Monitor takes about 5 minutes to open. Most dvd's will take between 20-30 minutes to rip, but on these ocassional "bad" ones they take over an hour. When Rip It is running with the "good" discs the system react like normal.
Anybody ever heard of any of this with Rip It? In the next couple of days I might download Mac the Ripper and see what it does with these "bad" discs.

Hmm, the update removed src.jar so Eclipse no longer has source attachments, and strangely I am unable to restore via Time Machine. The Developer Package does not help either.
