Thanks. Though it is quite cumbersome compared to the keyboard shortcuts to take screenshots (http://guides.macrumors.com/Taking_Screenshots_in_Mac_OS_X).
I never knew that. Command+Shift+4 will save me so much time, thanks.

It might not work at all but it would still look damn cool.
Get a grip man.

Hello all....this is my first post this to this forum as I am a new Mac user. Great site...
Anyway, I recently purchased a 12"Powerbook...which rocks by the way....Can anyone recommend a great wireless router? I was going to invest in the Airport Extreme for the compatibility however the reviews I have read say this isn't the best router out there for the $$$$.
Any suggestions?
-Dave

It's the images from the computer that I'm having problems with. It used to work, and I got no "clunk" when it did work. BTW, on the forums, all the img options are enabled. Other people still do it.
When attaching pics from your computer, make sure the file size isn't larger than the maximum allowed by the forum. When you click the paperclip icon, a new window/tab opens to browse for the file. At the bottom of that window are the max file sizes allowed for each image type.

I have sent an email to my manager here at Gateway with a link to that article to see if we can get iPods to keep up with Dell. I will be interested to see what they say. "Ah... well ...hmmm... maybe if we hadn't run those ads bashing the iMac... damn."
Guess maybe you should be careful who you go around trashing on TV.

What's everyone's SSD preferred SSD these days? I've got a 2010 MBP, so the Vertex 3 is not a good choice (expensive and less performant on a 3gbps connection), and I'm afraid of getting the junk version of the Vertex 2.
I've heard good things about OWC, but I have a bunch of Amazon gift certificates ($260 worth), so they're unfortunately not an option. (The only 240GB I could find on there was from one seller I've never heard of, memoryc -- no thanks.)
I'd like to get over 200GB if the price is right.

Personally, I can't even fathom still being on 3.2.1, considering how many changes/features have been added since then to 4.2.1. And considering how easy it is to jailbreak, it's a total no-brainer.
I totally agree.

I'd appreciate any links to distributed computing forums, not of the folding @ home type but for closed, professional grid-based computing. It'd be good to read up on what other people are doing in respect of this these days.
Thanks

Apple is secretly testing their new 'istrain' sensors in the new iMacs, depending on feedback they intend to incorporate these 'istrain' sensors across their whole product line.
Sounds like a positive result so far...

In August from what I've read online. But let me check with my friend, since his store will have it listed in their computer, if this isn't just a rumor.
But I don't see why not. Until the Wii came along, I was bored with sports games on console. :o

Ok, so lets say I go with 3rd party memory. If I have an unrelated problem with the MBP, would I need to put the original memory back in before taking it in for service?
I'm new to the whole Mac thing. Thanks.
First, it's ALL 3rd party RAM, since Apple doesn't make RAM. They put other manufacturer's RAM in their computers. Second, upgrading the RAM or hard drive yourself is not a violation of warranty, so there's no need to put the original RAM back before service. Hang onto the original RAM, in case you have a problem with the RAM you buy.
... Apple cannot give me crap for using third party ram.
They wouldn't, anyway. See above.
Apple Warranty: Installing Memory, Expansion Cards, User Installable Parts Does Not Void Warranty (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=13946)
From 2011 MacBook Pro User Guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Pro_15inch_Early2011.pdf):
Your MacBook Pro does not have any user-serviceable parts, except the hard drive and the memory.

Maybe I'm getting old, but there doesn't seem to be any right now. :( All of the games I find interesting are being funneled/gimped to the 360, or the promising ones have been blah in general. The only game that my PC buddies got into, which I didn't for obvious reasons, was WoW, which of course is cross platform. Now that's all some of them play.
I haven't bought a PC game for a few years now. My PC Tower(s) are only on for a little bit of work these days.
What type of games do you like, I can ask my friends if they've found anything good at the moment, or if WoW is still consuming their lives? I've been gaming on PCs since the eighties and prior to this drout used ot game all of the time, mostly online and via LAN parties. And MS thinks we'll pay for services that are still free...
This is the only game (http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/) I'm even remotely interested in playing. But I'm not hold my breath, since System Shock 2 and other games that uses a similar approach to the first one, kind of blew chuncks in comparison.

If you just bought a new iMac will apple give you the new lion free or with a discount?
I know in 2009 I bought a MBP about a month or two prior to Snow Leopard, Apple gave everyone who bought a Mac within a certain time frame, an upgrade disk for only $10 (67% off). I was one of the lucky ones.

Oracle did no such thing. Were you maybe thinking of Sun? Many years ago?
You gotta admit, those are some of the fugliest and un-Mac-like applications out there.
Sorry, I meant Oracle have discontinued their Oracle database for OSX.. the last release for OSX was Oracle 10g. Oracle is now 11g.
Agreed - they aren't particularly pretty but since OO v3 things have got better with the use of Aqua. However, I'd rather them look ugly and have them not available on OSX at all...
